Working Principle

The PSA Nitrogen plant separates nitrogen from compressed air using carbon molecular sieves (CMS) as adsorbents. The process involves two towers filled with CMS that alternately adsorb oxygen and other impurities at high pressure and desorb them at low pressure.

Step-by-step Process:
  1. Air Compression – Ambient air is compressed and passed through filters to remove dust, oil, and moisture.

  2. Air Drying – The compressed air is dried using air dryers to avoid moisture damage.

  3. Adsorption – The dry air enters a tower with CMS. Oxygen, CO₂, and other gases are adsorbed while nitrogen passes through.

  4. Desorption – The second tower regenerates by releasing the adsorbed gases at low pressure.
